Split and Trogir

The largest city in Dalmatia and one of most beautiful towns on the coast is definitely the city of Split. Only a half hour drive from Split you will find Trogir, town protected by UNESCO. Šibenik

Coming to Vodice without having visited Šibenik is as if you have not been to Dalmatia. This first native Croatian royal town which is located only 10 kilometers from the town, is becoming increasingly popular and attractive tourist destination in this part of Adriatic. In addition to numerous cultural monuments, with which it can be proud of, this beautiful old Dalmatian city offers many contents for research and entertainment.

Zadar

Just an hour drive from Vodice, there is Zadar, old Dalmatian town which last year was proclaimed the best European destination. Skradin

Skradin, located about 15 km from Šibenik, is one of the oldest Croatian cities, first mentioned under its current name in the 10th century. The area was already inhabited by the ancient Illyrians, however the antique town of Scardona owes its name to the Romans, as it was their vital administrative, traffic and trade centre of Province Dalmatia. Skradin’s position at the very entrance to Krka National Park makes it one of the most important nautical destinations in the Adriatic and one of the most significant tourist destinations in Croatia.

One of the Dalmatian and Croatian gastro-icons in general is the famous Skradin risotto. A dish that takes 8 to 10 hours to prepare, and is traditionally made by men in Skradin. One of the world’s most famous chefs, Anthony Bourdain, wanted to take a bath in it out of enthusiasm. Some say that risotto is both complicated and simple, tasty and delicious, seductive and peppery, but it is actually a specialty and a gastronomic experience. Skradin risotto is not prepared often, but mainly for festive occasions, because it is prepared for at least a hundred people.

NP Kornati

Kornati National Park is located approximately 60 nautical miles from Vodice. Kornati islands are the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean. Over 150 islands, islets and rocks crammed into the crystal clear water, creating a landscape that is eternal inspiration to numerous artists. Blueness, unspoiled nature, dolphins that play safely in the sea, many visitors who come here looking for a piece of paradise, stay enthusiastic for the reason of the beauty that Kornati offer.

Island Prvić

Prvic, with its two settlements, Sepurine and Prvic Luka, was first mentioned in the 11th century. It was substantially inhabited by people from Srima and Vodice who fled here in fear of Turks. In the 16th century, the island became a fashionable resort for Sibenik nobility, building their villas and summer residences on it.

Sepurine has the summer residence that once belonged to the famous Vrancic family of Sibenik, which produced two significant persons in European terms: Anton and Faust.

Faust Vrancic was born in Sibenik in 1551. When one hears his name, it is first associated with parachute. Our Leonardo was a versatile thinker and scientist. Under the influence of his uncle Antun, a reputable church dignitary, diplomat and writer, he soon became famous as an inventor, lexicographer, historian and writer. Faust was the author of the first printed Croatian dictionary. He died in Venice in 1617, but his remains were transported to the Church of the Lady of Mercy in Luka at his own wish.

Island Zlarin

Zlarin, another island in Sibenik archipelago with just under 300 permanent residents and area close to 9 square kilometers. It is the third largest island in the archipelago located just 1.5 miles offshore in Sibenik channel.

The island is well known for its tradition of harvesting red corals and handmade coral jewelry. Although the industry is nowadays in decline, you can still buy corals there in several jewelry / souvenir galleries and shops.

The island was originally inhabited since Illyrian and Roman times, however, Zlarin was historically owned by Sibenik‘s noble families and landowners. The current island settlers of the only village on the island – Zlarin, came there in the 13th centuries to work on island’s olive, fig and wine groves.

Due to its beautiful nature and attractive landscapes as well as the frequent ferry connections to the mainland, Zlarin is popular as weekend and summer destination for foreign and local visitors from surrounding areas.

Island Krapanj

Krapanj is the smallest inhabited island in Croatia as well as the smallest one in the whole Adriatic. Located on just over 350 meters from the mainland and brodarica village, the island covers the area of just over 0.45 square kilometres. Its shores are very shallow as the island itself too.

Traditionally people on the island are fishermen and sea sponge harvesters as the island have a long history of deep sea diving as well as an industry of sea sponge processing. Due to its sea sponge history the Islanders are known as ‘Spužvari’ (Spužva is a Croatian word for Sponge). Although the small sponge industry can still be found on the island, it slowly died as diving was proven to be a pretty dangerous activity, so instead, local people moved towards scuba diving and spearfishing. Nowadays, there is a small sponge museum in the island’s Monastery that exhibits some artefacts from the period.

16th century built Franciscan church and monastery is also on Krapanj where you can see The Last Supper painting by the Renaissance painter Francesco da Santa Croce as well as its well known Renaissance cloister.

About Vodice

The town of Vodice is located in Dalmatia, on the Adriatic coast, 11 km away from the old Dalmatian town of Šibenik. Besides being known for its beauty and rich tourist offer, it stands out due to its extremely good geographical location. It is located in the immediate vicinity (only half an hour drive) from the two airports in Split and Zadar and near two national parks – Krka and Kornati.

Vodice town for many years is being known as the city of flowers and you will notice it at every step. Dalmatian stone houses in the old part of the town are decorated to the smallest detail and adorned with a lot of flowers. The soul of this city are its inhabitants, whose kindness and compassion you cannot fail to notice. NP Krka

The Šibenik region, in which there is the city of Vodice, is proud of its geographical location and natural beauties that adorn this area. Even two national parks are situated in this region. At only 25 km from the town, there is the National Park Krka, which you must visit. Millions of visitors each year is proof that this natural attraction is a place that you have to put in your plan while writing your own itinerary during your stay in this county.

NP Plitvice

If we say that Plitvice is the oldest national park in this part of Europe and the largest national park in the country – Haven’t we said it all? Plitvice lakes are a must-see destination while visiting Croatia and definetely plan to visit it.
